• The incoming links section of my dashboard is empty. I have also found that the search engines do not pick up my site very well. I believe I need to get some people who matter to link to me ??

However, I know for a fact I’ve got some links pointed my direction. How do I know what kind of site I want a link from? What sites will show up as incoming links on this list and for Google, etc? I have put it in every forum profile I have, the signature of my emails, and basically plugged it wherever possible on forums that allow it. But none of these are showing up.

Can anyone make any suggestions for me? Thanks!

  • If you hover over the “more” after the Incoming Links title… you will notice the link points to “technorati/search/yourblog/?partner wordpress..” or something like that.
Which means those links are coming only from blogs that technorati “knows” about.

To find out what non-blog sites link to your site, go to Google and type
    link:www.yoursite.com

Thanks a lot for the advice. Very good to know. However…

Your search – link:www.luminousnerd.com – did not match any documents.

And yet, I have friends’ blogs which are definitely pointed to me. And after a check, it is definitely listed by Google (nccunningham, maybe not high ranked, but nevertheless it is listed…)

I noticed this “problem” with google, something new probably after their recent updates. I have few sites with some incoming links to them but they don’t appear on google. I guess it just takes a while, be patient, keep adding content and getting new links, eventually they will show up.

    Okay.

Either way, I’m still not getting a whole lot of visitors. I know people take classes in college, and read huge books on the subject. But is there some easy quick advice I ought to know?

    Hello,

You might (if you haven’t already) want to try https://www.google.com/webmasters/

Yea have tried that, but it was a while ago and I will refresh myself on what they’ve got there.

    Thanks!

a good deal of your posts here seem to be related to generating traffic.

the first thing you need to do is stop “worrying” about that. You got your best advice in another thread: “write”.

And if i can expand on that, you need to write about what interests you, not what you think might interest others. If you go the other route, you wont write much, if at all.

Google knows about, so its there. if/when people find it, and find something interesting they’ll read. If not, so what.

Its not the end of the world.

Write, that I have done, and will of course continue to do. But people don’t just come. It requires marketing to get some traffic going…and, yes, a lot of my posts have turned into the question of how I can generate that traffic effectively. I’m still searching for an answer on that. And if I quit worrying about getting traffic, then I’m not going to have the motivation to blog. I don’t like blogging to no one. :/
