I installed this program today and immediately the tools.php files were quarantined by BPS. Later the server level malware detection identified the same files in the quarantine container as malware. I’m sure, considering there are so many users this is probably not an issue but it is weird that 2 separate programs identified these files as malware.
I really don’t like being public about this, but the instructions for support on the free version only gives me this option. Unfortunately I could find no other mention of this on the www.ads-software.com support site.

  • Hi,

There is no file called tools.php inside UpdraftPlus; you can check this at: https://plugins.svn.www.ads-software.com/updraftplus/tags/1.9.5/

So, you should look for the source of your problem elsewhere. Likely it triggered the alert when you installed a fresh plugin because the activity gave BPS an opportunity to run. (WordPress’s scheduler is based upon activity happening to create opportunity for background tasks to be run). Inspecting the datestamp of tools.php may give you an indication of the timeframe you should be looking at (but not necessarily, as some malware will rewrite datestamps to avoid this).

    Best wishes,
    David
