• Everything worked just fine until today.

I am now unable to edit any of my posts, and it won’t allow me to create new ones.

I can open up the editing page, make edits to the posts, but when I click “publish” or “update” (depending on whether it is new or old, obviously), it takes me to a “page not found” page. And when I go look at the supposedly updated post, none of my changes are there.

I deactivated all my plugins (which are all still the same versions as they were last week when everything worked just fine). Still the same problem. I re-installed WordPress 3.9.1, but still no luck.

A notice comes up on the top of the editor on one post I was trying to edit that says “The backup of this post in your browser is different from the version below. Restore the backup.” When I click “Restore the backup,” it puts the updated version in the editor window, but when I click “update,” it still brings up the page not found error.

It also won’t let me “save draft”, as it goes to the “page not found” error.

The only difference I can think of is that Firefox updated. And now I’m trying to figure out how to “downgrade” Firefox to the last version.

    Please help.

Update: I installed Palemoon, and attempted to edit the posts in that browser, but still the same problem.

Update 2: reverted to an old version of Firefox, and still having the same problem. I’m convinced this has something to do with WordPress 3.9.1

It has nothing to do with your browser. It’s a databse/permissions issue.

Take a look at repairing your database as one fix:

Did that, and it didn’t fix the problem. And now, when I’m in the dashboard, there’s a new stupid thing showing up across the top:

“Notice: has_cap was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.0! Usage of user levels by plugins and themes is deprecated. Use roles and capabilities instead. in /home/…/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3193”

So, all in all, that didn’t fix the problem.

    ok.

That message indicates that you have an outdated plugin or theme. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Update: removed WordPress and did a fresh install. No problems, except for trying to get my old posts to be recognized.

Even after a fresh install of WordPress 3.9.1, and re-importing the database, it still will not let me edit a post or create a new one.

Once again, just to make sure it’s clear:

I’m using the default theme, all the plugins are fresh installs, updated, and there are zero old plugins on the server.

When no plugins were activated, it still had the same problem.

I CAN, however, do the “quick edit” feature and change the tags/categories. But that won’t work for editing the post itself.

If this is a database/permissions issue, how do I fix it? I tried the above suggestion, and the problem still existed afterwards.

Did you try creating a Page or Post before you imported the database?

    who is your host?

    Thread Starter Cobb78

    (@cobb78)

I did create a post after deleting everything. odd…

    The host is DotEasy.com

Sounds like you imported an issue when you restored the old database backup.

Any idea how I might go about fixing that? The link suggested by Evan contained two different approaches to repairing databases, and I did both of them. Still the same problem.

    I’m open to any suggestions.

What version of WordPress was being used when the database backup file was created?

    3.9.1

database was backed up yesterday afternoon.
