    Hi there,

What do you mean by “smarter”? Please try being more specific.

I mean like unique visitors.. not every time you refresh a page.. I want it to count by ip or stuff..

I see. Well, technically it’s possible of course. However, this is something specialized tools such as Google Analytics already do since a very long time now – why would you need this feature on a WordPress plugin? Just curious to know.

    Sure i’ll tell you:

I have a list of posts, which I want visitors to know the number of views for their posts.

also, I need the popular posts to be more authentic, and to avoid cases that people will refresh the page alot and it will change the views count to 1 milion..

I really think you should make it default function in your next release..

However.. I’ll be really glad if you can solve it for me right away.

    Thank you,

    Gal.

… to avoid cases that people will refresh the page alot and it will change the views count to 1 milion.

Well, this is something you simply won’t be able to prevent. One way or another, a determined person will still find a way to increment the views count (proxies, different computers, automated scripts, etc.). Cheaters will cheat, no matter what you do.

For the reason stated above, I don’t believe this would be worth the effort. However, I won’t dismiss the idea just yet.

But can you give me some solution to prevent normal people from doing it?

    (@hcabrera)

At the moment, no, I can’t my friend. In its current form, the plugin just cannot prevent these kind of things.

If you really, really need a quick solution then I suggest Google Analytics: it already does what you need.

But i cant plug analytics in my web, can i?

Here’s a tutorial, just in case you don’t know how to implement Google Analytics on your site. It’s fairly simple, give it a try.

    No man..

I dont want to know.. i want my visitors to know..

    Plugin Author Hector Cabrera

    (@hcabrera)

In that case, it can’t be done. I’m sorry.

    Thread Starter Gal763

    (@gal763)

there isnt any code to do that? its wierd..

    Plugin Author Hector Cabrera

    (@hcabrera)

The feature you ask can’t be done with a simple modification to the plugin. It also requires a different DB table structure and changes to the queries as well. There’s no “code” for that since the plugin would require major changes for this. It’s just not that simple.
