• Hi,

When I google my website name, the metadescription which I have entered for the homepage is not displaying in Google. Instead it seems to be grabbing text from the slider, which is very bad as it is also outputting the image title at the end of the description!

What do I need to do to make sure it uses the meta description ?

    Thanks,

    Peter

  • Hello Peter,
I am having the same issue… but I assumed it was my Google XML Sitemap creating it. I also have WordPress SEO by Yoast. When I google my site it pulls text from the pictures I have featured on the homepage instead of the information I entered into the meta description.I deleted the text from the pictures in my media library… but it remains the same on google. Would love to sort it out!

I really hope there is a simple solution to this, as it makes the Google search result look really bad!

If anyone knows how to resolve this issue, it would really be appreciated.

Dear Peter… I came across this information on the google webmaster tools site. I have not tried it yet. Yahoo and Bing are pulling my meta description. I did a google fetch for my homepage, but I may have to give it some time to see if anything changed. This article explains how google sometimes pulls descriptions from an open directory. Let me know if this helps. … Rene

    I have the same problem.

For now, I haven’t found any solution.

Same here. Google shows wp-caption-text instead of description. It’s a new problem and seems to have come with the last update.

@rene Cerrito This has nothing to do with DMOZ.

Now there is an issue on github…

    https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/1187

… but they say, that’s no bug. It should be a support question. I shall try this: https://kb.yoast.com/article/73-my-meta-descriptions-arent-showing-up-in-the-search-result-pages

    My answer to this information:

    1. I have no other plugin adding a description.
    2. My description contains the focus keyword. The wp-caption-text doesn’t.

I have the same similar problem. It is pulling meta description from my latest post. I have written the meta description on homepage but it still does not work.

Has anyone else had a solution?

    Regards

Mine corrected itself after I deleted the alternative text from the photographs in my media library.Hope this helps.

My meta description was 180 characters length and not displayed by Google.

I reduced it to the max 156 characters and two days later Google displayed it again.

I’m not 100% sure its the solution to the problem but in the meantime, I changed nothing else
