• Hi

I don’t when this happened, i have two site, a live and a sandbox, both with same setup, all plugins are updated, and was at the same time.

In the middle, the live site stopped showing topics in the forums, it is possible to comment and see the comments, even the topic starter can’t see it, the admin neither.

Topics is shown when PMPro is deactivated.

Is there some hidden setting or any other thing that could have gone wrong ?

    All the best
    Carsten

Are you using the PMPro bbPress addon?

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes i am, does it change a setting in PMPro, cause when deactivating the bbPress addon, nothing happened, only when deactivating PMPro.

I got rid of the problem uninstalling and reinstalling PMPro, but i would still like to know what could have caused the problem, i don’t want to do that on a full running site with lots of members ?

Do you know what has happening when the issue occured first? Since reinstalling PMPro sovled it, it’s possible you had some custom code in there that was messing with things. Another possibility is a plugin conflict occuring somewhere, but we won’t know without more info.

Are you using any other plugins/addons that might affect either bbPress or PMPro? Are you using BuddyPress?

As written i have the exact same setup on two sites, and they are also on the same severs at servage.net.

I don’t change core files, and i haven’t changed anything regarding PMPro.

The problem affects all users in all forums incl. group forums as well, and it is only the topics, it is possible to reply and see the reply, and also still not see the topic after replying.

We’re going to try to recreate this error on a dev environment to try to figure out what’s going on, but any other info would definitely help in the meantime.

Since the issue was fixed after reinstalling PMPro, it seems like the order that the plugins were activated in could possibly be causing a plugin conflict. You can try deactivating and reactivating PMPro to see if that fixes the issue like it did on the other setup as well.

Also, you mentioned this affects all forums including group forums, so you are using BuddyPress then?
Could you list all the plugins you have installed?

We did some testing and it looks like the recent updates to the search filter are behaving a little strangely with bbPress. We’re going to work on fixing this, but in the meantime, you can disable the search filter completely by choosing “No” on the “Filter searches and archives?” and/or choosing “Yes” on the “Show Excerpts to Non-Members?” settings in the Memberships > Advanced Settings.

    Thanks for your reply @messica

When deactivating the plugin, the problem got back when reactivating it again. It was only when i removed the plugin and reinstalled it again, it fixed it.

I don’t remember the which plugin was activated after which, so can’t help with that.

    My plugins are:
    Askimet – NOT activated
    bbPress – Activated
    BP profile search – Activated
    Buddypress – Activated
    Buddypress profil progression – Activated
    Codestyling localization – Activated
    Contact form 7 – Activated
    Hello Dolly – NOT activated
    Paid memberships pro – Activated
    PMPro bbPress – Activated
    PMPro customizations – Activated
    Wordpress importer – Activated

Interesting what you tell about the update, cause i had a feeling like it came after an update, cause i haven’t bin working on the forum, but i thought, maybe i had set up something in the middle that i didn’t remember. But now i have checked every setting, every part of the database related to it too, and know differences found.

The only thing i have done later, is installing BP profile search, but again, i have it installed on the other site, and then it’s only something that has to do with searching for members.

Thanks for that info – we’ll let you know when we come up with a fix for this.

    Thanks for your reply ??

Bobiebad, the bug here is probably one that we’ve discovered in our “search filter”. The quick fix is to set the search filter to “No” on the advanced settings page (which is probably what happened when you reinstalled).

You can also change the “show excerpts” setting to “Yes” and it will show your topics again.

The next update to PMPro will have a fix for this in general so bbPress isn’t affected whether the search filter is on or off. But for now, turning off the search filter (which you might want to do anyway) will avoid the issue.

Sorry about that and thanks for helping us figure this out.

I’ll keep an eye on these settings and see what happens.

Do we know when there is an update coming?

Do you have an update for this bug yet? I’m having the same problem ??

Hey guys, there was an update released with a new filter to customize the post types which the “Filter searches and archives?” option affects, so update the latest version (1.7.12), but it didn’t necessarily hide restricted topics from the bbPress search when that feature is enabled.

We’ll release an update to the PMPro bbPress addon, but for now you can check out the fix at my GitHub repo here.
