I just updated plugins and when I did so, Events Calendar disappeared along with all of my hard work. I can’t reinstall because it says I have the folder already (indeed, I do).
Any suggestions as to what I need to do? I’m kind of scared to delete the folder but I am wondering if that is what I need to do. I am so scared that I will have to recreate all of the events that were on the calendar.

  • How did it disappear, exactly? I’m asking because the same happened to me. But with my case, the calendar itself didn’t disappear but all the graphics of it. Like so: https://lopenmetsastysyhdistys.com/tapahtumat/

My plugin is not there, the events page is not there. None of the events are there. I think it happened when I updated the plug in.

Corrected. In case this happens to anyone else, we renamed the folder on the host and reinstalled the plug in … it worked and all events and other data were reinstated. Yay!

@lkelley … oh gosh, thank goodness, thank you for posting that.

What folder exactly got the renaming? I want to follow this maneuver precisely as I have so much time and effort invested in this calendar data. Thanks a bunch, B

@lkelley … so in theory, this is like disconnecting the ethereal umbilical cord from the plugin to its database files, yes?

But both counterparts are still virtually present/reachable/acessible … so then you re-name the file, which allows for the disconnecting/disengaging … delete the plugin … then come back in with the re-install of the plugin … then re-connect the plugin to its database/files, yes?

It is in your host account. Check content/plugins/the-events-calendar

I hope it works for you! My partner just added an x in front of the name so that I could reinstall.

    ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:

    1. No, wait a minute, … the data actually stays in the SQL database, but there is no guarantee, that when you delete the plugin that all your data will stay intact, so backups are essential. I recently deleted the plugin and reinstalled the plugin, no data loss, but no guarantee that the data remains intact, … but thankfully, the data did remain intact.

My problem, that prompted me to do this delete and reinstall was really a theme conflict, and deleting the TEC plugin was not the the answer, or the best path, … best path was to switch to a basic WordPress theme.

    2. You needed to dump the plugin files from the host server, so you could reinstall the plugin, and then the new installation of the plugin would then overwrite the previous instance of the TEC plugin files.

    3. Thirdly, the actual data entries would still remain in the SQL database, it is the TEC plugin files that are reading and manipulating the data in the database.

    4. I think my overview is correct, but I am novice, and working diligently to get a firm grasp on this stuff.

    5. And remember that, some plugins do in fact, delete files upon exit, and/or they give you an option to delete files upon their eradication from your website files, that’s the caveat, and the reason why backups are critical.
