• Hello,

My problem is I cannot upload high resolution images through NextGen Gallery.

I can upload normally low resolution (under 1.5 Mb images), including in batch.

It works on the Media Library (I tried up to 6.8Mb image).

I had this problem on my site before and tried almost all the fixes I’ve been able to find on the forums and discussed with Photocrati on a bug report, but for the sake of trying to find the reason of the issue, I have re-created a brand new wordpress basic site with a brand new database.

    – WordPress is up to date (3.9.1)
    – NextGen is up to date (2.0.66) installed from the Plugin page in the dashboard
    – MySql up to date (5.1)
    – PHP up to date (5.4)
    – Hosted with 1and1 France
    – Theme is Twenty-eleven, no child theme, no customization
    – No other plugin installed nor activated

    – Server settings (in the overview page of the Gallery Dashboard):
Operating System : Linux (32 Bit)
    Server : Apache
    Memory usage : 12.82 MByte
    MYSQL Version : 5.1.73-log
    SQL Mode : Not set
    PHP Version : 5.4.28
    PHP Safe Mode : Off
PHP Allow URL fopen : On
    PHP Memory Limit : 120
PHP Max Upload Size : 8M
PHP Max Post Size : 8M
    PCRE Backtracking Limit : 1000000
PHP Max Script Execute Time : 50000s
    PHP Exif support : Yes ( V1.4 )
    PHP IPTC support : Yes
    PHP XML support : Yes

    – Permalinks turned to “postname”

    The site is : https://jlparot.com

If anymone has the slightiest idea of what is happening, please help me cause this is driving me mad.

Thank you so much in advance!

@maria-elisa – Larger image sizes require higher limits in most cases. I would recommend looking at these values:

    PHP Memory Limit : 120
PHP Max Upload Size : 8M
PHP Max Post Size : 8M

    I’ve just added a php.ini file.

    Values now are:

    PHP Memory Limit : 100
PHP Max Upload Size : 50M
PHP Max Post Size : 50M

I just tried to upload a 2.9Mb image through NextGen, it starts, goes up to 100% and then nothing happens, no error message, no coming back to the add image page, and the image, although it appears in the galery, is not “really” uploaded (it appears as a broken link and all operations I try to do on it fail).

I also uploaded a 6.5Mb image in the regular WordPress Media Library and it works with no problem, so I doubt the issue comes from the php limits.

    Thanks!

@maria-elisa – Have you tried using something other than the default (numeric) WordPress Permalinks structures such as “Post name” or “Month name”? This is unfortunately still a common issue for 1and1 web host subscribers.

As stated above my permalinks are turned to Post name and it doesn’t work.

I’ve tried with the default permalinks and i have an error message stating “Upload complete 0 images were uploaded”.

I’ve also tried with Month name, and it’s the same as with Post name, up to 100% then nothing and the image is not uploaded.

    Thanks!

@maria-elisa – The only thing left (and I doubt that its the issue) is file and folder permissions but you are able to upload “smaller” images.

We may need to get a look under the page at your site. Would you be able to submit a Bug Report (https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/ … please reference tis topic) with your site specifics.

We will need log in and FTP credentials for your WordPress installation as well, please include those with your Bug Report.

    Thanks!

OK, I have already submitted a bug report earlier this month (on the 10th I believe), but I will sumbit another one with login and passwords.

Please note that my client happens to be a friend and I do this work for him for free, which explains his patience, otherwise I would have been in a difficult situation towards a “real” client.

Thanks anyway for your prompt answers.

otherwise I would have been in a difficult situation towards a “real” client.

@maria-elisa, this is a bad thing to remind since NextGEN is free and support is free too – and this is valid also for all free WordPress themes & plugins and for its support Forums.

You’re right, this is mean and I apologize, but I’m quite upset after spending one month trying all the fixes I’ve found to make this work.

I’m a “beginner” freelance webmaster and I do free work to create my book. I just don’t want this to happen when I’ll have “real” clients with short deadlines.

I think NextGen is an awesome plugin and if I struggle with it instead of switching to another plugin, it’s because I cannot find another plugin with the same features I need, proof of the quality of the plugin.

And in addition, I would be more than happy to pay for the pro version – if only I was sure it would solve my problem – not because I need the features, but as a donation for the plugin and great support.
