• I have constructed a very simple twentytwelve CMS site that has a menu item with a drop-down menu list. I am using the WP built-in menu generator. The drop-down item works fine on a desktop, but on an Ipad the dropdown list appears few a few seconds and then disappears. Clicking on an item in it while it is appearing does not lead to the menu choice.

I am trying to construct a site that does not require any knowledge of CSS or HTML. So even though I can make a CSS drop-down menu that works in Mobile I want to avoid anything that would not be doable by an unsophisticated user.
I suspect the problem has to do with the fact that Touch Screens do not have a natural CSS ‘Hover’ function. But I know that I can make the drop-down menu item work if I use a conventional-design CSS menu.

Question: Is there a way to make a drop-down menu that works on Touch Screens that only uses the inherent twentytwelve Menu construction capabilities?

    Thanks,
    timbla

  • I’ve not found a way of doing this with the built in menu system either. I’ve loaded a menu plugin – just – and will look if that helps later.

For now though, I have made each menu page have content or links that mimic the items in the page/linked drop down menus. It’s not brilliant as a solution I admit, though at least as the drop-down menu disappears – or worse links to the actual empty menu page – at least the viewer still gets to choose a hyperlink to get to where they were seeking to go.

If ‘WP’ could possibly have the main menu page as a header, or something similar, rather a full blown page-link, if that were possible, it could be helpful: I think….

Of course more knowledgeable people than I may have other more practical solutions.

    Hi timbla,

I think this could perhaps help. Adding static top level tabs # in ‘Support everything WordPress’. Not sure if this addresses your issue though it might…

    Hi Ian,
    Thanks for your replies.
I don’t understand what ‘Support everything in WordPress’ is. Does # mean ‘here’? Help?

I discovered that some Themes (other that twentytwelve) handle drop-down menus OK. Twentyten and twentyeleven work on my IPad. So I went with twentyten which suits my CMS design concept.

I have an Android phone (Motorola Atrix) with 2 browsers. AT&T and Firefox.
AT&T works, but Firefox does not. I decided that I can live with this.

However I would still like to understand your last reply.
    Tim
