Your Opinion: Use a Shortcodes Plugin or ones built into the theme?

  • Just trying to get people’s opinion on which is better so that I can use the best method for future iterations of people’s websites.

    Shortcodes are really handy for things like creating columns and inserting posts or special media etc.

    Should I be using a shortcode plugin or using the shortcodes built into a theme?

    ? My thought is that a plugin will allow shortcodes to continue working even if the theme is changed to something else later so it won’t break the content layout.

    ? Are there issues with using a shortcode plugin when a theme already has shortcodes for the same thing built in?

    ? What issues might come up with one method over the other that I”m not mentioning here?

    If you like using shortcodes what’s your favorite plugin and why? (paid or free, is a-ok).
