• So I already know how to install wordpress, and a copy of my site to my own pc for working offline.

But what happens when I design/modify a new theme and want to upload that to the existing site?

Simply copying the folders won’t work because there is a lot of the theme settings, data, header images, etc in the database right?

But you can’t just copy the database either because, if it took you a month to work on your new theme, you’d loose/overwrite all new posts, comments, etc on your live theme right?

So how do you go about migrating the new theme from offline, to your live site? Do you have to somehow merge databases or something?

Copying the theme folder is the only way to you do this. You then have to set the theme up on your live site.

Are you saying that copying the theme folder is all that’s needed? And that theme customizations and settings are not stored in the database? Or does it vary from theme to theme?

I’ve been using suffusion and I’m pretty sure it stores many of its settings in the DB.
