Impact when cloning a website

  • I plan using iThemes Security (formerly Better WP Security) with ManageWP and I plan to clone website from a template.

    What are the best practise when cloning a website?
    – Should I preconfigure iThemes Security in my template site and clone it as is
    – Should I disable the plugin before cloning ?
    – Should I instal the plugin once the clone created?

  • Hi,

    You shouldn’t experience any problems when cloning a site with preconfigured iThemes Security plugin.
    However, since this plugin could change the content of your wp-config.php and .htaccess files, the safest way would be to clone the unmodified site, and afterwards configure the plugin to your new site’s particular needs.

    Thanks for the precision Ivan.

    My plan was not to clone existing website but a template. I guess the other thing to keep an eye on are back up done by iThemes Security.
