• Hi guys, I was looking at s2 member and PMP out of all plugins I’ve found.
It’s great that it’s free but would also be happy to pay for ongoing support but I would first like to ask a few questions:

Basically I want a website to use Buddypress, as well as PMP (and perhaps an online shop using woocomerce)

However, any user can purchase from woocommerce so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

I would like the users to be able to register on the site for free (therefore they can comment if they want etc) but only paid members (monthly subscription) to be able to access some content.

    So the questions are:

    1. Does PMP integrate with WordPress users?
If they create an account with the website (therefore they’ll have a user profile page with buddypress features on my site) – THEN they decide to become a paid member — will PMP create a new user/profile details for them, or does it use the same user account for them?

    2. Does PMP integrate with WordPress roles?
So the user already has an account (free on the site) but want’s to upgrade to join the site premium features.
If a ‘subscriber’ is basically a free account and can use the buddypress features but CAN’T access the paid user’s content, AFTER they ‘purchase’ through the check out — will PMP simply upgrade their role from subscriber to a paid role? eg. Gold member?

    3. What happens with a user stops paying their subscription?
Does PMP automatically revoke their access?
Does it delete the entire account?
Does it reduce the role to just a subscriber role (free) so they can’t access the paid content?

They are my main concerns – about it integrating with WP itself, and being user friendly for the customers and ease of set up.
If they have to use two registrations, or have 2 different accounts then obviously that’s a headache.
And also, would like to know the situation about users who stop paying – if you have to manually remove or revoke access or lower it to the subscriber it might be a little tedious..

And if none of the features I’ve mentioned are currently implemented, are there any plans to implement them and how long will it be?

If there are any other advantages/disadvantages compared to other plugins (more so s2member cause I’ve narrowed it down to these 2) please feel free to mention them here.

  • Hey there,

    1. No, PMPro will use the existing member if one is already logged in. Otherwise, a new WP user will be created.

    2. No, PMPro memberships and roles are completely separate, so you can keep your existing roles for your users.

    3. When a recurring payment fails, an email will be sent but the user’s membership will not be cancelled immediately by default. However, we have a code gist that will do this, if that’s what you want. Again, PMPro memberships are completely separate from WP roles.

Additionally, there are BuddyPress integrations and all sorts of other addons. If you do decide to become a PMPro member for the support forums, we often help come up with quick code gists to accomplish some tasks.

    Hope that clears things up!

    Thanks,
    Jess
