• Hi
Yesterday I make an upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.9.1.
My site is ok, but when login I obtain only blank pages in my dashboard.
If I open my site, it shows that I’m connected, but the admin menu at the top asses me to blank pages too.
I had erased and re upload all the upgrade files twice but nothing change.
I made some little changes to function.php (erasing all spaces at the end) and the wp-config, as i read in old post in the forum, but it did’nt resolve anything.

Did you follow the instructions in Upgrading_WordPress_Extended ?

Yes, I did it step by step.
Today, reading other post, saw that taking the 2wp-config sample” from the update files, and writing my data by hand can fix the problem (besides in my old wp-config I have no keys or salts) but in fact, uploading that file (changing the name of course) causes that even my blog appear blank, so I put back my old wp-config (now with keys and salts) and my site is ok again, but the problem with the dashboard is the same.

I made some little changes to function.php (erasing all spaces at the end) and the wp-config

First, remove the functions.php file that you modified, then upload an unmodified one from a fresh download, and please never modify a core file again. ??

If that didn’t resolve the issue, try manually resetting your plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Well, thank you MacManx, but no fix yet.
I had restored all the core files after I assume that changing the function file did not function.
In your second paragraf you mean deactivate (not resset). Plugins was deactivated from dashborad before the upgrade. After the upgrade even i rename the folder… thats was not the problem.

Renaming the theme folder causes blank pages in all the site, so, theme probably is not malfunctioning.

I assume that wp-config has some to do, because taking the sample file that comes with the upgrade, and writing the correct data of pass and databases, and uploading, causes all the site achieving blank pages.

Returning to my old wp-config, at least the site is ok.

Are you running any cache plugins?

If so, follow the full uninstall instructions for the plugin (it’s more involved than simply deactivating).

    Something weird is happening.
From the login I cant acces the index.php, but…

When I acces to the admin core from an email (those to moderate the spam, or accept a comment) I can enter to the moderattion panel, and from there I can acces other pages, but no the index or the edit post pages.
Those pages that I can acces are
    theme-editor.php
    link-manager.php
    media-new.php
    widgets.php
    themes.php?page=functions.php (the theme options)
    theme-editor.php
    tools.php
    import.php (tools)
    export.php
    options-general.php
    options-writing.php
    options-reading.php
    options-discussion.php
    options-media.php
    options-permalink.php

but all the remaining pages are blank.
    Somebody has a clue?

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme automatically by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    I mean done

    Anything in your error logs?

    Thread Starter luxaeterna

    (@luxaeterna)

    where is that log?

It varies from host to host. Your hosts should be able to help you locate it.

Also, if you could please answer the earlier question, are you running any cache plugins?
