directive gets marked-down

Hi,
Trying to get a bold post title – on the management page, in the subscribe without commenting field. The input is:

You can follow the discussion (comments) on: <strong>[post_title]</strong> without having to...

For some reason it doesn’t work. Looking at the code generated for the page I noted that < and > characters got demoted to < and > and consequently rather than emphasized text I’m getting the <strong> directive shown literally on the screen. Would highly appreciate your input on this. Many thanks.
