I just reinstalled another wp version 3.9.1 to check, but really in admin settings – Media A field is missing…

There is supposed to be a setting:
    Safe uploads in folder.

why is this not there on local install?
    What more am i missing??

  • Safe uploads in folder.

I think you will find that this was removed quite a while ago.

    Dear Esmi,
I checked again and there is a difference in options, both in 3.9.1.
do you know how to get this option back?
The actual problem i have is i reinstalled wp and am rebuilding my website.
I copied the folder uploads with my pictures over the uploads folder from the new install, so far the images on the pages are working and i don’t need to replace every link!
But… in Media Library, the images are not visible.
Maybe this wasn’t such a smart way to rebuild the site.

    Any suggestions?

    Hope to hear from you..

Not in 3.9.1 – no. It was deliberately removed.

Did you import your old database?

Thats strange i have a 3.9.1 installation on my shared hosting
    With THIS OPTION included..

    Maybe we have a misunderstanding,
it IS includes in 3.9.1 on my shared hosting,
Why not on my local install?

The field in wich you can Change the Upload path..

    Maybe we have a misunderstanding,
it IS includes in 3.9.1 on my shared hosting,

If it’s present on your current version (on shared hosting) one plausible explanation is that you were using a non-default upload path on an older version of WordPress and it kept those fields visible through the upgrades to your current version of 3.9.1.

Why not on my local install?

Because in a default installation of a fresh version of 3.9.1 it’s been removed.

You can test my theory by logging into your local installation of a fresh version of 3.9.1 then navigating to //locahost/wordpress/wp-admin/options.php (or whatever your path to /wp-admin/options.php is) and on that page you will find three options labeled:

    uploads_use_yearmonth_folders

    upload_path

    upload_url_path

Put a path in the last two fields, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Save Changes”, then go back to Settings > Media > and look under “Uploading Files”. The fields should be visible again.

Can anyone who read my question answer this?

    @ ClaytonJames
you said “one plausible explanation is that you were using a non-default upload path on an older version of WordPress and it kept those fields visible through the upgrades to your current version of 3.9.1.”

I began my question with ” I just reinstalled another wp version” So it should be clear that this is not an old version with updates. Its a Fresh Clean install and it has this option.

I was talking about this option.
Go to Media – under Uploading Files
it says – Store uploads in this Folder

It HAS this option on the Shared Hosting Direct Admin installation.
It doenst have this option with the downloaded 3.9.1 local installation.

    ?

I began my question with ” I just reinstalled another wp version” So it should be clear that this is not an old version with updates. Its a Fresh Clean install and it has this option

Just to be clear, and to keep things in context, you actually stated this: “I just reinstalled another wp version 3.9.1 to check, but really in admin settings – Media A field is missing…” ..which when taken in context seems to imply you’re working locally with version 3.9.1, so you’ll have to forgive my misinterpretation of what you actually meant.

Can anyone who read my question answer this?

Simply stated: If you want those settings back, do this:

Log into your wordpress site, then navigate to /wp-admin/options.php and on that page you will find three options labeled:

    uploads_use_yearmonth_folders

    upload_path

    upload_url_path

Put a path in the last two fields, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘Save Changes”, then go back to Settings > Media > and look under “Uploading Files”. The fields should be visible again.

Or, perhaps try a plugin that does it for you. This one seems to play nicely with WordPress 3.9.2. I’m sure there must be others as well. Upload Url and Path Enabler

It HAS this option on the Shared Hosting Direct Admin installation.
It doenst have this option with the downloaded 3.9.1 local installation.

Why is it different for you on your localhost site than it is using Direct Admin install on your remote host? Who knows. An old database used for a new install maybe, or something to do with your hosts installation script perhaps? It doesn’t really make much difference though, because:

    A) It was deliberately removed some time ago.

    B) All you need to do if you want it back is try the instructions I gave you above.

    Hope that helps!
