I need help to troubleshoot and resolve a problem that is being experienced by some but not all visitors to subsites.

Background: The subsites are created using a blog template and there is a substantial amount of common content because the subsites are all distributors for the same manufacturer.

The homepage is the same for everyone except for a section that displays their name, ID, Welcome Message and photo (from a custom post type content block). We do not have a cache plugin installed.

The problem: At times, the wrong website will display. It seems that it is associated to some kind of cache issue because if you either clear the browser cache or reload with F5, it will reload with the correct page content. Of course, this is upsetting to a site owner to go to their site and find a different distributor’s site. It doesn’t seem to matter which browser – but the common denominator so far may be the ISP provider (Comcast) In other words some cannot replicate the problem and other’s experience it some of the time.

Do you have server side caching, like memcached or Varnish?

    Hi Mika,
We do not have server side caching.
Over the past week I’ve had 2 people try to troubleshoot this for me. One could duplicate the problem, the other could not. It IS A BIG ISSUE! Unfortunately, it does not always happen! In fact for a couple of days it did not seem to happen – but today a couple of new users registered and the wrong site info on some sites are displaying. However, if you reload the page, the correct page displays.

I thought perhaps it might be related to a domain mapping plugin – but after deactivating it, the problem persists.

What could be causing the cross domain problem?

Did you recently move the site to a new domain or IP?

    Hi Mika,
Thanks for trying to help with this problem. I finally got it resolved. On our multisite, with sites being created using blog templates, we are also providing some standard content across the network using a homepage template with “Switch to Blog” – for some reason, every once in awhile, the blog ID was passing blank – and if it was blank, it was taking the last inserted ID – thus the wrong site would display.
