    Hi. I’m running WordPress 3.9.1. I have a variety of plugins installed, & 2011 theme, but the problem persisted even when I renamed the plugins folder & activated the 2014 theme, so I won’t trouble yall w/that.

    A user wanted their pw to have special characters, including a ^, +, & = signs. Rather than giving a message that these characters were illegal (& I’m guessing at least 1 is), I was simply redirected to the page where I had started, either wp-user-edit.php or wp-user-new.php w/a 404 error.

    The steps to reproduce are:
    a) Go to ‘Users > Add New’
    b) Create a user w/a pw containing those characters;
    c) Try to create the user.

    So:
    a) Is anyone else able to reproduce this? &
    b) If so, would it be possible in the next release to at least instruct folks as to what the problem is as opposed to a simple 404–um, “this is embarrassing…”

    Thanks, & looking forward to any replies.

    Well, interestingly, my provider got back to me after I posted this. They disabled a mod security rule [id “341145”, & I was able to use the special characters in the pw w/o issue. We have absolutely *got* to find a way to keep our sites from being hacked w/o this mod security–it’s a nightmare & a pita!
