• I can not for the life of me figure out how to remove a featured image from the featured image box in the edit posts page. I have walked through it with my webhost (Dreamhost) and even had their wordpress team look into it for me and we still haven’t been able to find an answer.

On my post page, I press the ‘set featured image’ link. I select my image–I can upload or pick from the media library, as per usual. I select ‘use as featured image’.

However, if I decide that I picked the wrong image or I don’t want a featured image anymore, when I press ‘remove featured image’ nothing happens. Occasionally this will send an error to my webhost which then bans my IP from my domains. (This is easily fixed by sending an report to them.)

I can change the featured image, but I can’t remove it entirely.

I don’t receive an error message when the ‘remove featured image’ fails–I just stay exactly where I am on the page.

Things I have tried to fix this problem:
    — Re-installed WordPress.
    — Made sure WP is updated.
    — Changed theme to WP twentyeleven.
    — Turned off all plugins.
    — Talked to webhost who also did all of the above.

One of the posts where this has occurred: https://lnkproductions.org/2014/05/25/recommendations-of-note-for-the-crafty-ladies/

You can’t see the featured image on this page; however you can see it in the category page here: https://lnkproductions.org/category/reading/

I don’t particularly use featured images, but I would like this function to work in case I ever do.

    Thanks for any help!

That’s … insane. That should never happen that your IP gets blocked.

I took a look at your site and the only odd thing I see are calls like this:

ModSecurity: Access denied with code 503 (phase 2). Pattern match "(?i:UPDATE.+SET)" at ARGS:cookie. [file "/dh/apache2/template/etc/mod_sec2/modsecurity_crs_46_slr_et_wordpress_attacks.conf"] [line "111"] [id "2004016"] [rev "6"] [msg "SLR: ET WEB_SPECIFIC_APPS WordPress SQL Injection Attempt -- admin-ajax.php cookie UPDATE"] [data ""] [severity "CRITICAL"] [tag "web-application-attack"] [tag "url,www.securityfocus.com/bid/24076"] [hostname "lnkproductions.org"] [uri "/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php"] [unique_id "U9XkQtBxo8gAADfFD9QAAAAM"]

And it’s tied in to the edit.php file. So that tells me the removing is triggering our security checks. But I don’t see anything that should cause that. Can you test on another browser?

Thanks for the idea, Ipstenu-DH. I usually use Google Chrome, so I opened up Safari and tried it on there too–still no luck.
