I’m hoping that this is where I can ask this question – I was referred here from general WordPress.com. I am not asking about a blog that I own, but rather a site that is a WordPress site (I log in via wp-admin and make edits via the WordPress dashboard), but the server is hosted on my university’s server. This is a unit website of a department of the UMN so the fact that it is not working is a major problem. The site is located at https://cascw.umn.edu.

On Friday, after I published a new blog post on the blog attached to our website, the site suddenly disappeared and ever since, it has said “no data received” on Chrome (and similar messaging elsewhere). It has nothing to do with my specific browser – it is unavailable for everyone. I have contacted the UMN to check with the server, but it appears this is not the issue, as they have reset the server and cannot find any problems there. I can see that all of my site’s content is still there, via FTP, but nothing seems to be working. I have tried deactivating the site’s plugins and the theme itself, to no avail.

This problem did occur earlier in the week, but was resolved by restarting the server. As this is not working this time, it must be something else.

Please let me know what I can do to fix this issue.

That’s really a host issue with the server at umn.edu. Keep after them to do network and server diagnostics to fix it. Seeing your files via FTP means their FTP server is working; what isn’t working is HTTPD.

A network utility called traceroute shows your domain is really pointed at cascw-dev.oit.umn.edu, so that is possibly a clue; maybe the DNS got changed.

Thanks for your help on this, especially for including the more technical sounding terms. It was a server-related issue — in fact, the one I thought it was (needing to restart) — but because I didn’t have the right words, they ignored me. It is now all resolved.
