• I have installed WP into my existing directory and deleted the existing files… however I may have deleted the WP index, I’m not sure if I did or not, or if there was one to begin with.

When I try to edit in WP I still can’t see my WP site it is still showing the original.

Then when I try to view my site from another browser I get a listing of my directory files… not my old site and not the new WP site.

I’m not sure what I did wrong or where to go from here.

  • Hi,

If you want to completely erase your old website, did you also delete your MySQL database? Also make sure your new website’s wp-config.php file is connected to a different database, so it understands that this should be a different website…

If you’re using Chrome and your old website is still showing, that might also be a caching issue, because Chrome likes to cache like there is no tomorrow ;-). In that case, hitting control + F5 a few times could resolve your issue.

Thank you… I got impatient and deleted everything to include uninstalling WP then reloaded WP… Everything works now.

The reason I was still seeing the old website when editing was either a cache issue or WP just hadn’t caught up to my changes yet.

And the reason I was just seeing the directory listing in the other browsers was because I had in fact deleted the WP index.

But thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
