• I got a little excited when I discovered that there is a section like this here. Because I am blind and I need a sighted to judge my website.

I am new to PHP, CSS, HTML and WordPress. I need someone to take a quick look on my blog and give some suggestion. Do I need some icons? Background images maybe? Another color scheme? What about the spacing. All that stuff. I think I can accept not so harsh comments.

  • Hello,

Overall the website is good looking and interesting, but I have a couple of suggestion:

    1. The combination of colors in the header can be a lot better. I’m referring to this image:

I think that if you simply change the yellow color with white or black – that would look a lot better.

    2. Issue with article CSS – for example here:

You have a picture, then a video, but the video is overlapping parts of the text. You can check the other articles for similar issues as well.

Thanks for those suggestion. I thought the layout was already handled well by my theme. I guess I have to fix some margin/padding like what you said.

Your blog is really amazing, without any suggestions, but there are few more suggestions.
The one is blind street text in header image that goes to the left, make sure it should be in middle of image with some other great color.
The other thing is embed the video in post with same sizes, so it will look better and attractive to the readers.

First of all, your content is great, and that’s not so common so great job there.

My suggestion for the look of the blog would be to make all images inside posts and pages be alignleft and floatleft, because if they are on the right, the text next to them looks messy since it’s not justified (you could keep them to the right and justify right, I guess, if you prefer). In the posts that I saw that had images to the left, they were not float left so the space next to them was empty.

I think your header is fine.

The main issue I have is with navigation. Your menu is not descriptive and the items feel like they are in an odd order. In other words, I have no idea what they are before I click on them and I don’t expect to see about/contact/donate up front. I expect them at the right end.

The only thing I dislike is the animated swooping social media buttons. Even though they are very small, I think they look dated and unprofessional and my eye follows them every page so it’s a bit annoying.

This can really be a very good, interesting blog. Keep at it. If you want to criticize my latest, feel free, [ links redscted, please feel free to post your own topic with one link ]

Thanks. I’ve followed the advice about the navigation. I rearranged the items as suggested. I also removed the floating social plugin. And I think I already fixed the video overlapping the text. I don’t know why it happened but at least it’s ok now. I am a little confused about the advice on the image floating right. If you float the image left, wouldn’t the problem be the same? It’s just that now it is on the left?

Well, generally the text is left justified so float left would give a straight line of text along a straight edge of image.

If you put the image on the right, to get a straight line of text along the image’s left border, you would have to right justify the text. You could, but you haven’t.
