• WordPress is good at many things but in my opinion it’s not very good when it comes to handling photos. I find it difficult to organize and find photos but that is to be expected since it’s not meant as a gallery software.

However, I usually post a lot of photos on my sites and find it cumbersome to manage them, especially when I sometimes use the same photos on different sites, redesign a site or move content. What I really would like to have is one photo site with some decent gallery software which I then could tightly integrate with my WP sites.

Tightly here means that I should be able to use photos from the photo site in the same way as I’m using local photos – for example in galleries, featured photos, etc.

Yes, I know that there are numerous plugins for Flickr, Smugmug, etc etc but none of them seem to have the integration I want (I would also like to avoid being dependent on external sites). I’ve also looked at Gallery and some other gallery software but none seem to have the integration I want. However, chances are high that I’ve missed something obvious and I would be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

  • I use a photo and gallery plugin called nextgen.
There are a zillion photo and gallery plugins available, suggest that you do what I did, installed and tried different ones until I found one which suited me.

Yes, I’ve been playing with NextGen and it not to bad (got badly burned some years ago though), and it’s a solution that I’m going to look into if I don’t find a good “multi-site solution”.
