Have installed wordpress for the first time a couple of days ago from my hosts cpanel. I think it installed version 2.0.5 by memory. All great apart from adding comments. Right from the beginning with no hacking of any files and using default theme, adding comments failed with the error of a blank white page and no comment actually added. I have since managed to upgrade to version 2.1 hoping this would resolve the issue. No luck. Have contacte host who say nothing to do with them. As I have not done anything originally other than hitting the install button I would assume this to be a bug on conflict between a version of software my host is running and the latest version of wordpress. My host is Dayanahost.com. I have come across one other unresolved post in this forum that may have had the same issue where they did nothing but suddenly comments stopped working and they suspected it may have been there host upgrading to PHP version 4.4.2 which is the same that dayanahost is using.

    My blog is https://www.newzealandfishing.com/wordpress

Once again I state the difference between this and most of the other posts regarding this issue is that mine was a completely new un-altered install (until I downloaded the latest version and followed the instructions to install it in order to try and overcome the issue).

    Any assistance greatly appreciated.

  • I had this problem on one of my blogs. I noticed that sometimes the comments worked and othertimes they didn’t. When the comment posting failed it went to a blank screen.

I discovered that if I turned off the Akismet plugin everything worked okay. I asked my hosting provider about why this was happening but they couldn’t provide me with an answer.

I’ve since changed hosting provider and I no longer have the problem.

I mailed the Akismet team about this problem but received no response.

I still have an account on my old hosting provider so I can test any suggestions people have to resolve the issue.

Could be related but I don’t have any plug-ins enabled either on mine so a slightly different issue. Forgot to mentions that I can add comments into other blogs so it probably isnt anything to do with any of my own computers settings.

Still hoping someone out there has a solution – even a different theme or a different wp-comments-post.php or confirmation that that have the same issue with the same host or versions of PHP – something to establish a pattern would be a great help as I would like to get this going.

    Hello,
We checked your account, There was a .htaccess file in public_html folder with a RewriteEngine, We’ve created a .htaccess file in wordpress folder containing this line:
    RewriteEngine off
That will disable your rewrite rules of the parent directory and fixed the problem. A test commend has added to your port for confirmation.
