Pass parameters with permalinks

How can I pass a parameter via the URL when I’m using permalinks?
For instance:
https://www.mydomain.tld/page?parameter=value
With permalinks set like this:
https://www.mydomain.tld/%postname%
https://www.mydomain.tld/page?parameter=value
becomes
and WordPress loses track of parameter.
How can I make WP retain parameter and it’s value?
