error (time-out) when trying to restore database in phpMyAdmin

  • Hey guys,

    My WP database is backed up, weighing in at about 9mb.

    I’ve got WP installed on another server, hosted at GoDaddy. I’m attempting to upload my 9mb db to this new installation. Since I’ve never restored from back-up before, I figure it’d be a good idea to go through the motions and get on a grip on the process now. I’m basically mimicking a disaster recovery.

    phpMyAdmin keeps crapping out on me, not allowing me to upload the db to the new location.

    Has anyone experienced this? And what’s the workaround?

  • You may have to slice up the backup file into some smaller chunks.

    If you open it up with a decent text editor, it’s not too hard to figure out. Just be sure to do the importing with the “pieces” in the right order.

    So is it a process of opening the db up in a text editor, selecting a chunk of it, CUTTING it from the db file, Pasting it into the SQL query form field of phpMyAdmin, clicking Go, waiting until it sticks, and then doing it again with a second chunk?

    The second chunk doesn’t overwrite the first chunk?

    The db backup file, yeah.

    And no, it won’t dupe things. That file contains the information to re-create the tables and then reload them.
