what_to_show option changed in 2.1?

  • In WP 2.0.2 you could specify “Show at most n (days | posts)” under Options > Reading.

    In 2.1 this has been changed to only accept “Show n posts”

    I’m using WP as a CMS for a weekly newspaper and we post all of our stories once a week. “Show at most 1 day” worked perfectly for us, because it would show only posts from the current issue (posted all on one day since we’re a weekly).

    Can anybody help me get this back? I’ve tried changing the values of what_to_show by hand in the database and it doesn’t work. We really need this function to work before we can upgrade to 2.1

    I wonder if this is related to the fact that I can’t get the Custom Query String plugin to show 3 days on my front page – instead it shows 3 posts?

    I want the days option for what_to_show in Blog Pages reading Option, as well.

    Why was it removed in the first place? I can see where it was whacked:

    Is there a hack or plugin I can use to bring the effect back? I write multiple/variable number of posts per day, a “Show at Most” option based on number of posts is useless to me.

    I need this option for when I travel and make multiple daily posts using my cell phone. Rather than set my viewable post count to 10, showing the last 10 posts which could be all in one day or spread over multiple days, I like to keep my page clean. Settling on what is usually one post per day. However, if I take a trip or something, I would like to know that all of my posts in one day, whether they are direct posts, or posts from my phone, will all show up on the front page.

    This is an essential part of the viewing options and, for those who may often make multiple posts per day, it is necessary for a proper flow of content.
