Trouble uploading images

    Hello

    Today I was working on a few new posts and had been adding images via the WP upload feature. Everything was going along fine when on my third post I got this error:

    The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/me/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2007/02.
    Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/me/public_html/wp-admin/admin-functions.php:1879) in /home/me/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1219

    I tried deleting the post and staring over but that did not work. I double checked the image to make sure it was in the correct .jpg form. I tried a different image but that did not work. I FTP’d the image directly to the folder but WP would not see it in the Browse All function. I do have alot of images in my wp-content/uploads/2007/02 folder (332 images with 46800178 bytes). I am using WP 2.1

    I have browsed through older forum posts but could not find this specfic issue. I’ve been able to solve all of my other questions by reading older forum posts but this one has me stumped. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

    I solved the problem. I re-uploaded the admin-functions.php file.

    i have same error message. i reloaded admin-functions.php from local site to remote. this did not fix it. did i misinterpret the solution here? thank you.

    note: i have successfully uploaded images in the past. but now that i think about it i made the mistake of upgrading mysql to v5.0 which caused all kinds of problems. i am back to v4.something and everything seems normal – until now.

    note 2 = sorry.

    i was reading the forum and someone said i could ftp the images up there. well i did that but i don’t seem them, or most of the previous uploads for that matter, in the “browse all” window. so i am back to square one it seems.

    here is a question. why can’t i seem all the images in the upload folder in the “browse all” window? there are 20 images in the folder but i only see three via the dashboard.

    If you FTPed the images then it won’t be logged in the database, therefore you won’t see it in the browse all view.

    Only images uploaded through wp will be viewable in the browse all

    ok, makes sense. though that only accounts for three of 20 that i have ftp’d. i never used the browsed all feature until this incident, simply uploading and moving on. i wonder why this is the case. thanks for the feedback.

    so are you saying that the other 17 you FTP’d was visible in the media manager?

    two things here =

    1) i am saying that about 20 were uploaded through the dashboard and i only see three which were uploaded the first time i uploaded images. so i don’t see 17, only three.

    i did ftp an additional three which i can’t see as explained they are not in the database.

    of interest, today i uploaded an image on another site and it worked fine but the image does not show up in browse all window on this other site either.

    2) the bigger problem, i still can’t upload images. i still get this error message =

    note: i reloaded the respective admin-function and functions files from a clean wp out of the box.

    some progress, maybe.

    the first time you upload into the “uploads” folder the permission (chmod) should be set at 777. once that initial pix is up change back to 755. this config worked for several months.

    so i went back and tried the 777 setting and it worked. then went back to 775 and the problem reappeared.

    So it was a permission setting? On a windows server my upload folder is set to read,write,modify. But that still doesn’t explain why it didn’t show up in the browse all window.

    Mine is read, write, execute. Sounds like the same thing with different labels. 777. Anyone can do anything which is not recommended. Even the latest image that I uploaded through the dashboard, today, does not show in the browse all window.

    I did this on two sites. A four-month old site that I tweaked and quite possibly messed things up AND a site with a theme that is almost out of the box and a day old.

    I also looked at two other sites, different themes, and all behave the same. I see multiple page listing of images, but only page 1 shows the image. When I go to page 2, 3, etc. I get the blurb = there are no attachments to show.

    We upload our images from Photo Bucket. You can resize them there too.
    You pick the code you want (URL link) Click on the image sign on your tool bar, and paste the code into the pop up box. Then, you can pick where you want to align it. We opened a special account for our blog so we don’t have all the pictures on our private account. We have trouble with our sidebar and many solutions have been tried-none work-smaller pictures-smaller fonts-less text on line etc.

    i have changed my permissions from 777 = everyone can do anything to 775 = my group can write. it is quite possible that i might have reverted to 755 in the original question at the top of this thread. whatever, the uploads seem to work now and we can mark this question as resolved. thanks.
