• I upgraded one of my sites to 4.0 today and now when I click on an existing gallery in one of my posts, I don’t get the edit icon or any icon for that matter. Nothing happens at all, it’s like it’s not in the post. When I display the post on my site, it appears that the gallery works fine. I just can’t edit it. Any thoughts?

Hm, I’m not able to reproduce that issue myself. Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Thanks MaxManX, I will try that.

Tried the suggestions, but still a problem. I tried creating a new gallery and I can create it but once I insert it into the post it becomes uneditable. It appears to act like a picture that can’t be edited. After I’ve inserted the gallery, if I go back to the media library, the gallery is not there and I would have to create it again. I’ve tried this on two of my sites so far and I’m getting the same results.

I saw that there was another complaint about this by someone before the 4.0 upgrade so it might not be specific to 4.0 but other than that, nothing has changed. The problem literally happened from one minute to the next because I was working with a post that had the gallery before I updated and then after I updated, I could no longer edit the gallery.

I would appreciate any other ideas I can try. Thanks!

Same problem here. Was working fine, then wordpress updated to 4.0 and I cannot update gallery. Tried manually updating 1 image at a time through “text” mode. Worked in preview mode, but when updating page got :

“The requested URL /wp-admin/post.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”

    Update:
Just tried from a desktop Mac OS_10.7.5 and was able to update the gallery.
On a MacBookPro OS_10.6.8. I cannot edit gallery.

Hm, just to be absolutely sure, you still had the same problem with all plugins deactivated while using the Twenty Fourteen theme?

I am using Avada by ThemeFusion, not Twenty Fourteen, but had the same problem with the default gallery.

    Tried deactivating all plugins:
Fusion Core, Jetpack, Revolution Slider & WordPress Importer

But had same issue. Maybe tied in to the OS?

Ok, now please try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

When I switch to Twenty Fourteen, I lose the “portfolio” pages where the galleries reside.

Huh, ok I’m going to have to say that’s probably a theme problem then, since the problem pages only exist when the theme is enabled. ??

We aren’t able to support commercial themes here, but you can reach ThemeFusion via https://theme-fusion.com/support/

Had similar problem but i couldnt even see my media in the gallery, much less edit. The problem was a plug-in (as usual) as MacManX (Sir James Huff) had mentioned. The plug-in I had the problem was:

Remove Query Strings from Static Resources

Remove query strings from static resources like CSS & JS files. This plugin will improve your scores in services like PageSpeed, YSlow, Pingdoom and GTmetrix.

    Thanks for sharing!

I’m using Firefox on Windows 7 for my WordPress activities. I’m using the Jenny theme – and have been without a problem for quite some time until this latest update. Prior to the 4.0 update I had a scroll bar in the edit window and a separate scroll bar for the overall frame; now I just have the latter scroll bar and I cannot edit existing galleries in Visual mode. Okay – After restarting Firefox the gallery edit function has returned. The interior scroll bar has not returned – which is inconvenient but is a lack that I can live with (I think).
