Been searching for a resolution to this for 2 days now.

The site is https://www.bridgepsych.com and since I updated to 4 I can no longer login or access the admin area.

https://www.bridgepsych.com/wp-login.php takes me to a ‘Not found’ page. I’ve searched the forums and tried changing the .htaccess, siteurl and home address via the database but I still haven’t found a solution.

If I remove the https:// part of the site url in the database I get a different problem which says the site is in an unresolvable loop.

Either way I can’t fix it and I’m tearing my hair out. Any help please?

    Hi gotgotf

I know how to remove the .htaccess but how do I regenerate it?
And where do I click on settings and tools permalinks?

    Before,
Just create an empty text document .htaccess
Sorry, settings -> Permalinks -> click on Register changes.
    This action regenerate your htaccess.

To regenerate your htaccess file in your WP dashboard go to Settings – Permalinks – then select your preferred structure (typically ‘post name’) and the save changes.

after removeing your .htaccess file, can you connect to your site’s dashboard? (this might not be a .htaccess issue!!!)

    Hi Barnez, gotgotf and jnhghy

If I delete .htaccess I get:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

When I try to login. So perhaps not an .htaccess problem..

    @ atagirl
Try resetting your plugins folder as this may be a plugin conflict with the new WordPress version.

To do this, in your cPanel or FTP, rename the plugins directory in wp-content to something like plugins-hold. Then see if you can login.

    Hi

Already tried this before- makes no difference.

Any chance you or your host have a recent (version 3.9.2) backup you could roll back to?

Or, you could try to download and manually upload the new WordPress 4.0 through FTP or cPanel, (taking care not to overwrite your wp-content directory or wp-config.php)

    Edit: changed “update” to “backup”

    Step by Step :
    – Change permalinks strucutre, just with ID (no rewriting))
    – Delete the content of your htaccess file
    – Reload your front office
    – regenerate your htaccess file in your WP dashboard go to Settings – Permalinks – then select your preferred structure (typically ‘post name’) and the save changes.

Thanks for your help- but you’ve lost me again.

How do I change the permalinks structure without being able to login? I can’t regenerate my htaccess in the dashboard because I can’t get to the dashboard.

    I’ve got the same problem!

I’ve upgraded to the new version and tried changing the URL and permalinks. and now I can’t log in.

Barnez- I’ve manually uploaded WP4 and now getting:
    >>>
    The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.
    >>>

This isn;t a Firefox issue- same thing happens in Chrome and Safari.

    Hi,

I don’t think which is related to .htaccess, enable WP_DEBUG from wp-config.php and see what error you getting on screen.

    PHP Smash code:

    Done this, still just get:

    The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
