Ecommerce tracking for Dummies

  • Hi,

    This seems like a great plugin, but it seems to have a steep learning curve.
    I am trying to track e-commerce functions (add to cart, checkouts etc) in my woocommerce store but I’m a little lost.

    I have Analytics setup and working using another plugin.
    I have setup a Tag Manager account, created a site(container) and got my ID, which I entered into the plugin.

    I enabled the Woocommerce standard tracking in the settings.

    What is my next step?
    Do I need to create tags and if so, what settings should I use? There are so many options.

    To begin with, getting the checkout purchase price to show up in analytics would be a great start.

    Hi,

    Well yes, it can be a little bit frustrating that there are many options but you do not see how to use them.

    First of all: if you are new to GTM I would suggest to learn about it a little bit more so that you can easily create new tags based on instructions.

    Currently the weakest part of my plugin is (IMHO) the lack of a detailed documentation which is now on the top of the list. I started to create howto articles on my website and I try to begin with the most requested part: WooCommerce setup ??

    I hope I can finish this within some days, until then please be a little bit more patient.

    Hi Thomas: I have done the same as @dagure with WooCommerce on a Test Bed site. When I complete a test purchase I can see the transaction information getting pushed to the data layer via your plugin. However the info isn’t getting pushed to my test GA account. https://note.io/1uoakkN

    I guess I am missing something here………

    I was missing the addition of the eCommerce transaction tag. So silly of me. Works like a charm.
