• Hi,
I upgraded my site (https://www.studiovivid.com.au) today to WP4.0 and have had a litany of problems since which started with getting stuck in a database upgrade loop. I managed to get the database to work after manually upgrading WP via FTP (retaining the wp-contents). However, now whenever I try to access /wp-admin I get redirected to an old subdomain, which is no longer even registered: https://portfolio.studiovivid.com.au/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.studiovivid.com.au%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

My site is now down entirely and as a WP beginner, it is well beyond my scope and I’m not sure how to get it all back working again.

I wonder if it could be related to the older 5.0 MySQL version running on my server? There are no errors in the error log currently.

Thank you in advance for your help and your time, it is so greatly appreciated! ??

Follow this guide and make sure that the two URLs are currently set as they should be: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL#Changing_the_URL_directly_in_the_database

    Hi MacManX/James,
Thank you for your help. I checked the wp-options and it is showing https://studiovivid.com.au. Overnight I spoke with my hosting provider who seems to have come some way in rectifying the problem with the redirect loop (although creating a new problem). They believe the error was created by a plugin (although I had manually turned them off in the course of trouble shooting). However, they claimed to have fixed the loop error by renaming db.php and object-cache.php.

The site is now loading with a new theme and no content (!) and the wpadmin is showing although won’t allow me to log into it. I have cleared my cache also in case that was the problem.

Thank you for your time and efforts in this matter James, it is so greatly appreciated.

I’m getting a 403 Forbidden error now at https://studiovivid.com.au/ which is definitely worse.

You should really get in touch with your hosting provider again and ask them to undo whatever they did.

Just as a guess, before your hosting provider made their change, you probably had https://studiovivid.com.au/ set as the two URLs in the database, and then a .htaccess rule to always redirect https://studiovivid.com.au/ to https://www.studiovivid.com.au/ which would then loop back to the non-www domain because that’s what WordPress says it should be, which would then loop back to the www domain because that’s what .htaccess says it should be, and so on.
