I am using wordpress 1.5.2. I am an anonymous blogger who may have to hide my content quickly. What is the best and quickest way to do this without losing my content. Thanks so much.

define “hide my content”. there’s an administrative plugin that temporarily disables the user-end of wp, there’s moving your entire wp directory into a subfolder via ftp, then back when you are done — or if in a subfolder already, just rename the wp folder to something else temporarily.

You should be doing DB and site backups, so if you really needed to, you could nuke your DB if you take a backup first! ??

Thanks, I have been doing back-ups but would rather do something temporary first. What is the plugin you mention?

And how do you “nuke” your database?

can I just change the first page so that there is a message on it rather than the main page of the blog?

Note that if Google (and other search engines) have indexed your site, your pages will still be available in the index, and it will be possible for people to view cached versions. These may take weeks to disappear from the index after your site goes offline.

If you are serious about hiding your content, you will have to exclude your pages now from the index using a robots.txt file. Even then, you may find your pages are already in the “Wayback machine” at https://www.archive.org

Ultimately, the rule of blogging or web publishing is if you don’t want people to read something, don’t publish it on the web.
