• I just updated to 4.0 last night, and now I am stuck in the text editor for a post. However, I was able to use visual editor a bit last night AFTER doing the update. But today I’m stuck on text editor.

A bunch of buttons/functions in the post area are also disabled – I can’t change URL of a post, I can’t add tags, the ‘add media’ button doesn’t work.. and more.

I can preview, publish, and add featured image though.

    Any help appreciated! https://celebritydachshund.com

Please read the master list and see if you’re using any of the plugins listed there:

Nope, don’t have any of those unfortunately..

Well, in that case, you need to find the problem plugin manually. Disable all the plugins, confirm that the problem is fixed, and then re-enable them one at a time. When it breaks again, you’ll know which plugin caused the issue.

I am having problems too. I was stuck in the visual editor. In safari I opened the web inspector and click on debug and reloaded the page.. buttons seem to be working for now..

I tried disabling all plugins. No difference.. : (

Any other thoughts or ideas to this? Should I just be restoring an earlier version of WP before 4.0..?

Other thoughts: Do you use CloudFlare? Have you cleared your cache there?

Do you have any other form of caching system working on your site?

Did you try changing to the default theme to see if that helps?

The editor works fine in localhost instalation, but not in a remote server.
Note: 1) both are new instalation, wthout any active plugin, and with default theme.
    2) I have another wordpress instalation at the same remote server where the editor works well.

Hi there, I figured out that I had been hacked.. weird code was getting added to the top of javascript files and causing my problems. Maybe test your website using Securi’s scan or check for weird code in your source.

I solved the problem by installing the plugin “CKEditor for WordPress” and with the tips of @vokiel at this topic.

I’m experiencing same thing as @paperkawaii – it seems malware has been added to all my JS files, which is what interfered with visual editor functions. I’m still trying to find a way to remove it.

@paperkawaii did you find a way to remove it? My site now displays a malware warning from the browser because of this.. ??

Yes I have removed it from two websites. For now.. you know these things can come back.

First one I decided to get a new server as I am having issues with GoDaddy only..!
I installed a new wordpress and imported my database etc.. installed new plugins. All fine so far.

The second one I cleaned, I removed the bad javascript files, you can find them by downloading your website including the whole wordpress install.
You can find them all if you found one, I copied the function name from the bad code which was something like
    decodeURIComponent
I deleted the file and uploaded a new one.
Did that for a while.. and they kept coming back.
Then… I had a look for the nasty php files which cause the problem.
So I search for gzinflate and there were lots of 78696968whatever.php files so deleted them.

I installed securi security plugin from wordpress plugins and then bulletproof security and then installed wordfence and set them all up properly.

I’m not an expert and if all else fails, goto securi.com and pay $90 to get it fixed for good…

After you have done it, you can submit your website to google, https://www.google.com.au/submityourcontent/website-owner/

Well good luck. I’m kind of glad I’m not the only one with a big headache..

sorry I guess this should be a new post but just to add.

It came back on the one I ‘cleaned’ but not on the new server.

I guess it remains somewhere on the server. So I am going to use Securi to fix that.

Interesting. Ok thanks. I’ll post back if I find out anything from my end..

@paperkawaii, was Securi able to solve this issue for you? (ie. make it clean and safe again?)
