WP DB Connection Error – Site Down

  • I keep getting this error message:
    Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql103.secureserver.net. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    I called my hosting server and they said everything was fine on their end and they said it was a WP database issue. I don’t believe them, but I don’t have any course of action. Anyone have any suggestions or things I can chec

  • If you did nothing on your end (no version upgrade, no changes of any sort, no plugins, etc.) then the only possible things are:

    1. An attack by an outside force (maybe unlikely, since your host SURELY should have noticed were that the case)

    2. Your host made some change to a backend program: apache, php, mysql

    Get your host back on the phone and ask if they “upgraded” something backend. There was a recent deployment of php 4.4.5 which turned into a can of worms for instance; and some hosts are just now upgrading from apache 1.3+ to apache 2.

    And who IS your host?

    My host is GoDaddy (but not for long). Another site that seems to be on the same server as mine at GoDaddy.com is also down. Whenever I’m done this other site is down too. I’m going to get GoDaddy back on the phone

    Sounds like a shared server problem. And yeah, I’d bet on it being godaddy…. try to get second-tier support, the bozos who answer the phone to begin with are totally useless.

    And yes, a better host is an immediate necessity.

    Im having issues with godaddy also.. all they do for me is forward my address.. I keep getting 500 errors.. just started 3 days ago. I was thinking it was yahoo but after reading this.. it might be godaddy!

    We need to put pressure on them, they must have updated something and its screwing things up…
