Any interest in a new MT import script?

  • I’m just about to migrate from MT to WP and since I didn’t like the way the existing MT import script worked – I wanted my entry authors to be transferred over and I hate having to export in MT first since I have a slow connection and it times out :p -, I wrote a new script which does a database to database transfer. Of course this does exclude people who don’t run MT on mySQL but my script does allow you to select which particular blog you want to migrate and if you have multiple WP installation on the same database, it also allows you to choose the table prefix. I have tested it out and it seems to work pretty fine and I’m doing some final tweaks at the moment. Of course, since I don’t use categories that much and stuff, I am not sure if my category transfer code works perfectly etc. So is anybody interested in testing out my script? ?? If there is any interest, I’ll post it on my site and you can get it from there …

    I’d also like to give it a try. I’ve a crossgrade to do soon, and I can muck around with it on my test setup which will only have a copy of the MT db and not the whole system.

    on WP 1.2rc2, I got this error:

    Importing User records …
    1 User record(s) imported!
    Importing Category records …
    Invalid query: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘t fit anywhere else.’)’ at line 1

    It looked slick up until there!

    Ooops, looks as if this is more likely me not escaping quotes and stuff more than anything else :p I’ll fix that in a jiffy and e-mail you a new script – serves me right for not using categories that much :p

    I don’t have any categories that have the text “fit anywhere else” in them, so I’m not sure what field your script is choking on. I’ll start surfing my sql tables and see what’s up, but I’m a novice at this and it’ll take time. I’ll let you know once I find it.

    Thanks to much testing by lomara, I have been able to improve the script tremendously and now we know that the script works for at least two people ?? The updated version can be got from https://www.farook.org/mt2wp.phps

    Worked perfect for me, but I’ll be darned if I can find the password the users are set to in the script.

    Uh, never mind, I’m dumb.

    One thing this script didn’t do is generate sanitized post titles, so none of my permalinks work.
