They are not just functions, they are widgets. They developed so as to activate within the “category” pages for the pupose.

So, like any other widget, you can use them in any other “widgetized” area. You are not limited to the sidebar-only.

To test it myself, I just put them into “footer widget areas”, it works.

Even put it in a witgetised-area I created on the header, next to the site-logo, they also work.
