    Hi

I have upgraded my php version to 5.2.1-r3 (gentoo) today, and since then I notice some strange effect on my blog. Please see for yourself: https://problemlos.ch/wp/

You will notice the first few characters on the page, like 94af, or 38b2 or similar. They even show up BEFORE the <HTML> tag! Weird, eh? And on the end of the page, a 0 shows up, after </HTML>.

Do be honest, I’m stuck. I tried to find the way WP renders its pages, but didn’t really find where these chars are being inserted. I have deactivated all plugins and changed the theme to the default – no change. I even followed the upgrade steps once again, to ensure that I haven’t accidentially changed some file – no change here, too.

    Any hints appreciated ??

    Cheers

    André

Plugins can do this sort of thing. You might consider deactivating them one-by-one and seeing if there’s any change.

I have deactivated all of them, it didn’t change the headers & trailers.

I have now even renamed the plugins dir to make sure they’re not being found. Same problem, still.

    Any other ideas? Stuck …

There’s some other threads here about similar stuff, see if you can get search to work for you, look for “strange numbers” or some such…. Oh wait, I posted in one of them let me look in profile to see if I can find it. I’ll post back in a bit.

    Here’s that one:

Thanks for that one, vkaryl, but unfortunately it didn’t help. No proxy here.

There’s no problem with the admin interface, and another blog (https://problemlos.ch/segelblog/) doesn’t show this problem (although it’s another wp version)

AndreBonhote: I don’t see any numbers on your page. There are also no numbers in the source of the page. Maybe it’s something specific to your machine?

I don’t see them, either. I’ve checked in Firefox 2.0, IE7, Opera 9 and IE6. Not a single “weird thing” to be seen.

Ok, it’s really, really, very, very strange … using IE, I don’t see it, Safari doesn’t show it. FF 2.0.2 shows it on all platforms I use (OS X and Win). Text mode browser “lynx” shows it, text mode browser “links” doesn’t, on both Linux and Mac OS X.

    Some screenshots:

    Firefox 2.0.2 OS X
    Lynx under Linux

I am really at the end of my wits.

Btw, the guy in the other thread didn’t fix this too:

I tried a fresh wp installation and didn’t see the same thing occur. I compared all the php and js files using diff, and there’s no difference at all.

I am suspecting some hidden setting in the database to be guilty.

Are there any wp-devs around? *wavehands*

Another thing: The “bug” (as I call it) shows up in the preview window of the edit page, too …

I was wondering something along the same lines – except I was getting strange numbers in the URL, not the actual page source.

I tried to access the test blog I’ve set up at:

    https://www.seimone.com/wp

and for some reason it loaded:
    https://www.seimone.com/wp/?47ac2658

NO IDEA where those numbers come from. The front page DID load, but the random numbers scared me a bit.

    fixed. downgraded to PHP 5.1.6-pl11

Don’t know what it was, but it sucked …
