Updates and plug-ins installs go nowhere

    I have recently installed WP 4.0, but I have a message in admin that I need to upgrade. OK – this makes sense.

    However, when I click on this, it seems to stop with the message “unpacking …”

    I got the same thing when I tried up install BuddyPress
