    Hi,

Please help. The plugin has been working just fine for months, but now I’m getting the following error message:

    Unable to display Facebook posts.
Error: (#4) Application request limit reached
    Type: OAuthException
    Code: 4

I went to the Error Message Reference page and there it suggested that the facebook page it’s linked to might be set to private, but I checked an’d it’s set to ‘open to public’. Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue or what’s caused it is very much appreciated.

    Many thanks.

  • I’m also experiencing the same error.

    Unable to display Facebook posts.
Error: (#4) Application request limit reached
    Type: OAuthException
    Code: 4

Plugin is used in the footer.

Here’s further information that might help in troubleshooting:

    System Info
    PHP Version: 5.4.31
    Web Server Info: Apache mod_fcgid/2.3.10-dev
    PHP allow_url_fopen: Yes
    PHP cURL: Yes
    JSON: Yes

When I “test connection to Facebook API”, I get the following error:
    {“error”:{“message”:”(#4) Application request limit reached”,”type”:”OAuthException”,”code”:4}}

I have the same problem just now. I believe this is regarding the facebook app that this plugin is connected with. The app I am talking about is the one that the plugin developer created.

I tried creating an app on facebook to get some access tokens and it seems to have fixed the issue.

You just input your app details on the fields provided and the access tokens code gets generated for you.

    HI,
I also have same error message in my project

    Unable to display Facebook posts.
Error: (#4) Application request limit reached
    Type: OAuthException
    Code: 4

same problem here, been working for months and suddenly this error
I’ve not changed anything on my fb page.

Please follow @airap latest reply. It solves the error.

Seems like the default app used by the plugin itself is over the limit with Facebook api request.

    Thanks @airap

    My problem now solved

    Thanks again..

    Hey guys.

Thanks for letting me know about the issue. With several hundred thousand active users of the plugin it looks like the Facebook app that the plugin’s Access Token is attached to hit its limit. I’ll get a fix for this pushed out within the next few hours, but for now if do what @airap suggested and follow the directions at the following link then it will solve the problem for you: https://smashballoon.com/custom-facebook-feed/access-token/. Just copy and paste the Access Token that you receive into the ‘Facebook Access Token’ field on the plugin’s Settings page.

Apologies for the issue, thanks for bearing with me while I get this resolved.

I had the same issue and I confirm that @airap solution works great.

    Thanks.

I’ve just pushed out an update (2.1.3) which should permanently fix this issue. If you still see the error after updating then please let me know.

Apologies again for the issue and any inconvenience caused,

    John

Thank you! I had the same problem, now it’s solved. You’re great!

    Hello smashballoon,

Just thought you might want to know that the update still didn’t fix the issue, still getting the same error after updating:

    Hey ksteslicki,

I wonder whether either the plugin or your site is caching the error message from before the update. Could you go to the plugin’s Settings page and click ‘Save Changes’ – this will clear the plugin’s cache and force it to check Facebook for posts. If that doesn’t fix it then if you’re using any caching software then could you try clearing/flushing the cache on your site?

    John

Guess I just had to wait a moment for things to update, or for the caches to clear, either way it looks great now, thanks!
