Pinterest share button pulls content instead of title

  • I started noticing this change a few weeks ago. Previously when someone clicked the Pinterest share button that Jetpack provides it would pull the title of the photo or the title of the blog post as the description of the pin. Now it just pulls the first 200 characters or so from the blog post. This is definitely not ideal for search purposes on Pinterest, and I was wondering if there is a setting or something that can be changed?

    The pin button that appears when you hover over the photos is different than the jetpack pin button. The jetpack pin button is at the bottom of each post.

    Also, this is the post I notice it most on: https://thedigin.com/2013/11/almond-flour-waffles-gluten-free/

    It seems to happen only when the featured image is selected for the pin.

    You seem to be running a very old version of Jetpack. Could you try to update to the most recent version of the plugin? Once you’ve done so, Jetpack will send the post title to Pinterest, along with the post URL and the image, and no other information, regardless of the button style you choose under Settings > Sharing in your dashboard.

    Pinterest then builds a pin and a preview.

    Hmm, that is strange, there are no updates for Jetpack on my site. Maybe I will try reinstalling. Thanks for the info.

    Thinking now it might be because I am running an older version of WordPress. Probably time to update both.

    I updated to Jetpack 3.1.1 and it still pulls the content from the post vs. the title of the post or the title of the photo.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks for trying! I can’t seem to reproduce the issue on my own site.

    Could you try to deactivate any other Pinterest plugins you may be running on your site at the moment?
