• I updated to 4.0 and “Add media”-Button in Media library is not working. The page is empty. I am not able to upload images to it and I can not post them neither.
I tried disabling all plugins and still nothing was improved.
    Please help. Thanks!

Are you using any sort of caching plugin, or do you see a “Clear/Purge Cache” button in your Dashboard or admin bar? If so, would you please try clearing the cache?

If that makes no difference, or you aren’t running a caching plugin, try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Hey James, thanks. I have tried it all – deactivating plugins and switching to Twenty Fourteen, but nothing helps. Now I can upload an image but it does not stay in library. And I cannot see “Clear/Purge Cache” button in my Dashboard ??
What should I do? Manually downgrade it? Thanks!

No, don’t downgrade. Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

dora187, unfortunatley re-downloading and the core files will probably not resolve this issue either.

Please see the end of my post here for a workaround until this is hopefully fixed in the next WP release:

It’s still worth trying. There are many causes for what dora187 is describing.

Also, if dora187’s Media library is working properly (and it’s just the Add Media button not working), then she doesn’t have the same issue you do.

I have the same issue as Dora187. Add media button results in a blank screen, no images. Set Featured Image results in the same thing. Media Library on the menu is blank and Add New does nothing…

Permissions seem ok on files (644) and folders (755).

Any help would be appreciated. Been down the disable plugins route,… No caching either.

Hmm. I updated with WordPress directly, i.e. did not download then upload and never had any issues before. The ” uploader” I would use is Filezilla, latest edition and it generally works fine. I am somewhat reluctant to delete as I fear screwing up the site. Should I just re-install wordpress through the dashboard?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

No, just do as directed above. If you don’t delete wp-config.php and anything under /wp-content/, you’re only replacing core files, it won;t affect your site’s content or settings.

Make sure that you delete the files before replacing them as directed above.

I did it manually, I downloaded wp 4.0 and then in my cpanel/public_html I deleted and replaced all files (except wp-config.php and/wp-content/) with new one. It took me whole day to do it but then I could not access my wp-admin and when visiting my website I see only this:
“Warning: require(/home/doplgeng/public_html/wp-includes/load.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/doplgeng/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 21

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/doplgeng/public_html/wp-includes/load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/doplgeng/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 21 “

Now i do not know what to do. It seems I definitely screwed up my site. Wish I had been more reluctant to delete (as gcoleman said). Any advices? Thanks.

It sounds like one or more files were not uploaded.

Is there a load.php file in the /wp-includes/ directory?

James, I do have the load.php in my /wp-includes/ folder… I have not done the manual upgrade yet since I did not want to have the issues some others mentioned… It is our corporate site so I am extra careful…

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Just living without the featured images on new posts for the moment but would really like to have them…

    Sorry, that was for dora187.

You’ll need to try the reinstall as directed above. We really cannot proceed without ruling that out.

James, yes – there is load.php file in the /wp-includes/ directory and it is 23.8 KB.

    (@macmanx)

Huh, well it says it can’t find it. :/

What are the permissions on the file, is it 644?
