"Virtual" checkbox automatically removed resulting in shipping charges

Since updating Woocommerce, the “Virtual” check box for products is not working. When I click the box, a check mark appears. However, when I click “Publish” the box is automatically unchecked resulting in shipping charges.
I teach many classes, so I really need help with this. Much appreciated!
I am using Woocommerce version 2.2.7 and WordPress version 4.0 on the Virtue theme. All plugins are up to date.
