I thought the FileAway plugin was working fine but today during my testing all of my file downloads are zero bytes in size. When I FTP to the server all the files are good to go. Correct size and when downloaded, they open fine with the right data. I’ve tried Excel and Word files that we use for templates.

    I have plugin version 3.7.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Well… care to share any details about how you’re using File Away? What features are you employing, what shortcodes look like, etc?

Sure, here’s the code from my page. I setup a simple multi directory access page.

    [stataway scope=”month” mod=”no” size=”no” fadein=”opacity” fadetime=”500″ flightbox=”multi” heading=”Top Downloads Last Month” display=”inline”]

    [fileup makedir=”true” searchlabel=”Search …” customdata=”Posted By” manager=”on” matchdrawer=”true” theme=”whitestripes” fadein=”opacity” fadetime=”100″ showto=”administrator,editor,author,contributor”]
    [fileaway type=”table” directories=”on” makedir=”true” manager=”on” theme=”greymatter” fadein=”opacity” fadetime=”100″ flightbox=”multi”]

And do they download at zero bytes from the stataway table, or just from the file away table? do they download at zero bytes only in the flightbox, or any link on a file away table? do they download at zero bytes if you disable statistics? do all file types download at zero bytes, or just certain file types?

It looks to be all of my files (XLS, PDF & MP4 thus far) are 0 bytes.
It doesn’t seem to matter which link I use.
I created a new page without a flightbox and made a simple list of files. Still 0 bytes.

I also double checked and found that my test downloads from the 10th were 0 bytes too. I was testing and never finished looking at them until now. So I guess it has been doing this from day 1 for me.

OK. Well it seems like it’s an issue with your particular setup, maybe a server issue. Perhaps a permissions issue.

If you’re able to give me admin access I’d be happy to take a look for you. [email protected]

Wish I could but it’s an internal only Intranet.
I uploaded the files from the page I created and they all have the same 644 permissions. The folders are 755. I changed the files in one folder to 755 and still no luck.

Do you have any recommendations for the server setup or specific areas I could double check?

    OK, something new now.

The flightbox didn’t seem to be coming up so I took out the code for flightbox, published, put the code back, published and now my PDFs and MP4 files load in the flightbox. XLS files do not though.

I can save the PDFs using the adobe menu but any other link to files still download as 0 bytes.

Well since it an internal intranet, I imagine that has something to do with why you’re downloading at zero bytes. Have you tried putting a plain old [fileaway] shortcode on the page, no flightbox, with statistics disabled? Because all that does is generate standard anchor links to the file. If it’s still downloading at zero bytes, it has nothing to do with File Away. Moreover, with statistics enabled, the files are downloaded directly from the server, not through the browser. The server pushes the download to the browser, rather than the browser requesting the file from the server. So again, it’s going to be an issue with your server. And since it’s a local intranet, there’s not much I can do to help you nail it down.

(Local intranet: you probably should have led with that.)

Also the xls files don’t show in flightbox because they’re not supposed to. Pdf, video files, image files. That’s it.

Sorry about the Intranet part. Still a noob with this. Thanks for clarifying how it works. I’ll try a simple shortcode to see what happens and then research possible options for the server config itself.

The plugin is awesome BTW. I really hope I can get it worked out.
    Thanks for the time.

Not a problem, my friend. Let me know what you figure out.

Make sure you disable statistics when you test.

    Thread Starter y2kbyts

    (@y2kbyts)

Well now, the shortcode of [fileaway sub=”documents” makedir=”true” stats=”false”] works fine. So I added stat=”false” to the end of my original fileaway shortcode, and viola! it works. All my files are downloading fine no matter where I click (flightbox or direct link). The stats list of top 10 downloads doesn’t work, which is no biggie. I will take that off the page in this case.

I think we got it. Really appreciate the help!

    Plugin Author thomstark

    (@thomstark)

Yeah, so something about your intranet is preventing the direct download from server. Since you won’t be collecting stats now anyway, that makes the stats list of top 10 moot. You can just disable statistics on the Statistics tab of the File Away settings page, and you won’t have to worry about adding stats=”false” to your shortcodes.

    Perfect. Thanks again!
