Barnez. Thanks again for your help on this. I cant get it to connect with server still. Login authentication failed. Not sure what username and password to use in the site manager window. Have tried both the anonymous username with password that was there and my wordpress username and password. Can you help? Again!

Hi BArnez, have also tried my tso hosting username and password without success.

If you have access to your hosting panel, there should be a section there with details on setting up the FTP account.

    FYI my FTP details are:

    FTP username: my cpanel username
    FTP server: https://ftp.sitename.com
FTP & explicit FTPS port: 21
    SFTP port: 22

Also, bear in mind that if you have access to your cPanel, you can also access your site’s directories and files through the file manager.

  • Hi Barnez.
So is the cpanel on the hosting panel?

Yes, with my host, the hosting is the cPanel, but that can vary depending on the host.

You should have login details provided by your host, and be able to access your site’s files/directories, info regarding FTP, etc. It’s a good place to get to know, as an alternative to FTP for accessing your site’s nuts and bolts if the WordPress dashboard is down due to plugin conflicts, etc. Let me know how you get on.

    Will do, appreciate your help!

So got it working!! BUT the issue that wont allow me to access my wordpress site admin is that there is an issue with an SEO plugin but it wont let me delete it. here is the error message:

550 Could not delete seo-keyword-page.php: Permission denied

    any ideas???

Wont let me rename it either.

    Excellent news.

Probably you need to change your folder permissions. Try setting your plugins folder and the keywords page plugin permissions to 755. This should allow you to rename and delete.

ok and where do i do this? Sorry this is all just new to me!

ok see where to do that- in file attributes.

No problem. In my cPanel I can either hover over a folder and right click to bring up a menu which includes “Change permissions”, or I have an option at the top of the file manager window. Once the change permissions option is selected for a particular file or folder, a window opens where you have three columns: read/write/execute. Adjust the ticks until you get 755 and then save the new permission.

    Hi Barnez.
All working and have access into my wordpress admin panel again. Yeeeeeeahh!

Thank you very much for all your help on this, it is very much appreciated!!

One of my clients (I run a business consultancy) is transferring a wp site from one domain to another. They are having issues. I’m sure it will no surprise to you that I am not much help to them in this area ??

Would you be up for having a look at the transfer to make sure it is all done correctly, there are a lot of references to the old domain in links to pictures etc. Also need to check another wp site has had its meta tags updated correctly as the google description is old (mentioning avada). Of course I will pay you something if this is something you could do.

If not, no problem but again THANK YOU very much for your help on this!!!

    Hi Jennifer

That’s fantastic news. I’ve been there myself so know how frustrating it can be, but as in your case, someone took the time to pass on the solution, step-by-step, so I’m happy to help and ‘pass it forward’ as they say.

I’m no WordPress maestro, and just run a few sites myself, so I’ll have to pass on your suggestion. You could try posting in the WordPress jobs section here perhaps.

    Best wishes,
    Barnez

No problem Barnez. Thanks again for all your help.
