Uploading an Upgraded Theme – says the file is too big!

The most efficient way of increasing the maximum allowed upload size is usually to consult the user FAQ’s and documentation provided by your hosting service for their preferred method of raising the upload limit for your environment (if they allow it).

If you try that and still have the same problem, go to wp-content/themes/ and rename your current theme’s (and not your “themes”) folder by doing something as simple as just adding an underscore character like this_. After that, make a new folder there with the exact name of the new theme you wish to upload, then upload its contents just a few folders or files at a time.

Hello and thanks everyone for getting back to me.

First of all, I tried the plugin, but it has made no difference.

Secondly, I’m afraid I have to say that I am a little confused here. You speak about a CPanel. I am hosted with Just Host, where I have a CPanel, but I don’t seem to have anything like that here on WordPress.

I downloaded WordPress to have it on my Desktop and at the moment selected to work on a test site. Don’t know if that what the problem is.

Really sorry, but like I said … a bit confused about this … no control panel for me here on WP. I only have a Dashboard … that’s all I can see.

If you can kindly guide me in the right direction I would very much appreciate it. I’m obviously on the wrong road somewhere.

Where is your test site located? If you are running it on a “localhost” development installation, which one is it, and what OS is it installed on?

It’s probably going to be as simple as copy and paste. All you really need to know is where your web-server root directory is located. That can vary with whatever server package you chose, ie: WAMP, MAMP, EasyPHP, or a Bitnami Appliance, etc…but it will always be wherever you actually installed your WordPress directory. Consult the documentation for whatever server package you installed for the default /htdocs location.

Locate your web-root directory, and your theme folder will be at /wordpress/wp-content/themes/

Extract/unzip the theme on your desktop and then copy and paste the un-compressed theme directory to /wordpress/themes.
