    Hello

I recently installed the free version of Wordfence on my site.

A couple of days after the install I received an email alert stating there were ‘critical problems’ with suspected malware discovered on a number files relating to the Visual Composer plugin and the readme file for the S2Member plugin.

However, I’ve done a couple of full scans (including of plugins) since then and these found no problems.

The site has only been up for 5-6 weeks and hasn’t even been found by Google yet.

Should I be concerned at the alert email or go with the scan results?

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

    Tom

  • Hi

Thanks for using Wordfence. What likely happened is a result of Google adding bit.ly and del.icio.us to its list of unsafe browsing sites. The problem was a lack of accountability and abundance of uncertainty when it came to links provided. I mean, how do you really know that the link shortener you are clicking is going where it says its going? They had some good data to back up their decision too. We use the Google Safe Browsing list to help tell whether files contain links to known problem sites. The problem is that sometimes theme and plugin developers use link shorteners in their code. Likely this is what was being flagged. Google went back on their decision (partly) and likely thats why previous errors are not their now.

I can confirm that the s2Member readme file was definitely a bit.ly link — I saw that one too.
