Following my site being infected I am attempting to secure it better than previously. As well as installing the Securi plugin I also took the measure of removing the Admin user account and setting the only administrator level account to what I considered to be a difficult to guess user name.

This morning I received an email alert from the Securi plug in for a failed login attempt that quoted that username. Does this actually suggest that the would be infiltrator has already got that use account name or is this generated by the Securi plug in quoting the username of the only Admin account?

  • The alert indicates that someone tried to log into your admin panel using the “admin” username, since it was a “failed login” alert and you did not receive a notification about a “successful login” then it means that it was just an attempt, so I would say that you should not worry about it. Keep hardening your site and (if possible) install a firewall to prevent any other type of attacks.
