How to restore website from Tar.Gzip backup

That’s just for restoring the database. I need to restore the files.

what host do you use?

typically you login to your hosting service and select restore full back up then you upload your back up and click restore. It will upload the files and then will say restoring files at which you point can close the tab but only after it says restoring files do it before and you could end up canceling the back up.

I use a shared hosting that does not provide backup services (www.ehosting.ca).
I’m using the BackWPup plugin to back up my wordpress files and database so all I have is a Tar.Gzip file in my folder.
I don’t have an option to restore full backup when I log in to my hosting service, I use cPanel and WebFTP in there.

Have you tried asking through the plugin’s support tab?:

I use ehosting.ca, not ehosting.com different provider ??

Right now I’m trying to even just restore the database and the PhpMyAdmin will only take a backup file from my computer. My backup file is on my FTP folder. I can’t download it to my computer or copy it anywhere because it’s too big.

I emailed my hosting provider and they restored it for me using my backup file overnight. So…. still no answer as to how to do it myself. But at least I have my website back!
From now on…. I’m backing up my database separate from my files.

Use the .zip option instead of the Tar.Gzip. This will give you a file that you can download, unzip and restore via FTP and PhpMyAdmin.
