Hello to the whole BadgeOS team.

I’m the first to say I love BadgeOS, I bought some add-ons and plan to buy others, I still think it is a great plugin and you guys do a great job with this. I even rated this 5 stars with no regrets. On every message I post, I thank you for this.

    BUT

I think I’m not the only one who doesn’t understand the lack of support those last few months. Before I get back to this, I want to be accurate and say it’s not always been like that. Some weeks (months) ago, BadgeOS was fully supported by Michael Beckwith and he did the greatest job: accurate, responsive, nice, really helpful.

BadgeOS is a free core plugin and as an enterprise founder myself I get you can’t give much support when you have no money back for this. The problem is that people here like me payed for premium add-ons and receive no more support for now. Then I also think if we want (as I do) BadgeOS to grew more and more, being used in the largest amount of projects, support is important, just like development is itself. I guess I’m not alone to build a large project with BadgeOS at its core, my whole work and job is in danger if there is a problem with BadgeOS and no support.

I don’t say I want to switch to another solution, I just want to understand what has changed lately for BadgeOS.

To be perfectly accurate, after getting no support on this WordPress forum, I tried to contact (by email) the Web Dev Studio team (twice) and the BadgeOS team behind the BadgeOS.org official website (twice). It was for support questions and for custom development quotes. I got no answers at all. Why? (those two teams will receive a copy of this message also)

    I could understand everything:

“we have so much work and have difficulties to support this plugin for now”
      “we got some personal issues”
“there’s been a conflict between developers (WDS, Learning Times, etc.)”
“we cannot economically go further providing BadgeOS as a free plugin and need to consider it as a premium plugin”
“we currently work on the next release of BadgeOS and it will be a major one which takes us a lot of time”

To be honest I would be glad to work with you guys on some deep custom development regarding my personal project. I would also be totally ready to pay for BadgeOS as a totally premium plugin. Once again, I can understand why you don’t support it anymore if only you communicate a little about it.

Can you please consider to explain the 25,000 persons who downloaded BadgeOS what’s happening regarding development and support of BadgeOS?

There’s no anger or aggressiveness in my message, I just want to understand because it’s very frustrating to see such a promising awesome and so well supported plugin begin to go down in a heartbeat like this, without any explanation.

Thank you for taking the time to read and answer this, thank you for understanding my point. I hope to read from you soon, have a nice day,

    Emilien

  • Hi Emilien,

not that i know much, but happy to help if i can as BADGEOS is fundamental to my project also

    what issues do you have?

    HI KCDan,
thank you for following that thread, I hope someone in BadgeOS team will show and explain the situation…

Well, my problems are actually few, but I need to know if we can count on future development, enhancements and support.

My main concern is about WPML compatibility and I know I’m not alone to face this.
Then I also need some little enhancements regarding some features in a big community context: there was an issue reported by Michael Beckwith on Github to implement select2 with the nomination form (when your community is large, a dropdown isn’t the best UI option …)

regarding your issue, I had a look and think it could be solved with some custom css: can you send me the url to have a further look and try to help you?

    Thxs,

    Emilien

very kind of you Emilien, but the widget only activates when you have earned the badges, so would probably mean you messing around a lot

thanks for the heads up though, the solution probably does lie in the widget file

and yes, I probably can not assist you too much, yours looks like a more in depth project than mine

i think i have solved my issue, but only by default

I am using WPA achievements for the widget area, and BadgeOS for the badges section and credly linking

bit of a work around as i have to make the “award” twice, but looks a lot cleaner
